“20/20 Vision: Building on the Two Decades of GMS Cooperation”

After 20 years of cooperation the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) attracts over 30 million International Visitor Arrivals each year that generate significant economic and social benefits. The tourism sector contributes over $30 billion in annual receipts to GDP annually and is directly involved in the reduction of poverty through the creation of employment more than 6 million jobs, much of which is taken up by women, youth and ethnic minorities.

The Mekong Tourism Forum is the annual opportunity for GMS tourism stakeholders to connect and engage to help achieve three main objectives:

• Raise the profile of the Mekong as a single destination
• Provide a sector wide platform for the public and private sectors to address sub-regional tourism issues
• Expand marketing networks and opportunities for promoting the GMS

The forum focus will be on the development of human resources, pro-poor sustainable tourism, sub-regional product development and marketing for the next 20 years, in the context of achievements from the past 20 years.
