About the GMS

The Greater Mekong Sub-region

The Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) comprises Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Yunnan/Guangxi provinces in China (PRC). In 1992, these six neighboring states of the Mekong River Basin entered into a development program of sub-regional cooperation designed to enhance multilateral economic relations. The GMS is among the world’s fastest growing tourism destinations. 

About the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO)

The Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO) is an intergovernmental body uniting the national tourism organizations (NTOs) of the six-nation Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS). It is tasked with fostering the sustainable development and promotion of travel within the region, and marketing the GMS as a single destination under the ‘Mekong Tourism’ brand.
